Native American undergraduates can attend Northern Arizona University tuition-free starting in fall 2023.

The university announced this week that it will cover tuition for all students who are members of any of the state’s 22 federally recognized tribes.

The program is open to first-time undergraduate students plus transfer students who enroll at NAU in Flagstaff or at a statewide site.

It’s similar to the University of Arizona’s Arizona Native Scholars Grant, a program that started this past fall to fully cover tuition and fees for undergraduates from Arizona’s Native American tribes.

NAU leaders say they want to be the country’s leading university for Indigenous peoples, and they see this effort as part of that broader mission.
